FreeCubeSolver — Support

FreeCubeSolver scans your 3x3 or 2x2 cube with the camera and shows you, move by move, how to solve it. Free, no ads, no account, and it works offline.

Frequently asked questions

How do I scan my cube?
Point the camera at any side of the cube and fill the square with it. The app draws a dot on each sticker showing the colour it reads, so you can check before you take the picture. Photograph all six sides — the order does not matter, and neither does which way up you hold the cube.

It says some colours could not be read.
Move closer so the side fills the square, and avoid direct glare on the stickers. Even light beats bright light. If one sticker still reads wrong, tap its dot and pick the right colour before using the face.

A colour is wrong after scanning.
On the review screen, tap the sticker and choose the right colour. Tapping a centre is different: a centre says which side the photo was of, so picking a colour there moves that whole side to where it belongs.

It says the cube cannot be solved.
That almost always means a sticker was read wrong, not that your cube is broken. The app marks the stickers most likely to be at fault — correct those, or rescan that side.

Which cubes does it work with?
Standard 3x3 and 2x2 cubes in the classic colour scheme: white opposite yellow, green opposite blue, red opposite orange. Stickerless cubes work too, as long as the colours match that scheme.

I cannot tell the colours apart.
Turn on Settings → Display → Letters on stickers. Every sticker is then marked with the opening letters of its colour, in the scan, on the cube and in the solution.

How do I change the language?
FreeCubeSolver follows your system language (English, Dutch, German, French, Spanish). You can override it in Settings → Language, and it changes straight away.

The camera does not work.
Check iOS Settings → FreeCubeSolver → Camera. If you would rather not give camera access, you can pick a photo from your library or enter the colours by hand instead.

Do I need an internet connection?
No. The app never goes online. Everything, including solving the cube, happens on your device.

I want to learn to solve it myself.
Open Learn from the menu. It teaches the beginner method in seven steps, with every algorithm played out on a 3D cube.
